The book is an endeavour to bring the writings of Anita Desai to clear light of day. It tries to open the windows of literary sensibility to the lights of morning dawn so that the somber truth of human conditions mainly that of women on earth is revealed to one and all in the lucidity of Desai’s enlightenment of human predicaments. It has seized with the portrayal of her vision right from her, first novel : ‘Cry the Peacock’ to ‘In Custody’. The study of her later novels would be undertaken in my following venture which is underway vis-à-vis her daughter’s – Kiran Desai’s writings. The book may land you in uncanny awareness of women’s ways for freedom in life.
